So, how do you start your TikTok hashtag search? Doing hashtag research can be time-consuming if you just go at it by scrolling on your FYP. Thankfully, you can use TikTok’s Trend Discovery tool to find specific hashtags for your channel.

The Trend Discovery tool is great for finding actual data on hashtag popularity based on industries, regions, and other metrics. However, do remember that the tool isn’t built into the app, so you have to access it through your browser. You can also use a TikTok hashtags generator tool.

You can copy and paste hashtags that may apply to your niche right off the bat. You can also manually find hashtags for your TikTok. Here’s how:

Type in a Query

Open your TikTok app and click on the “search” button at the top-right portion of the screen. Type in a query, like “recipe ideas.” If you have something even more niche in mind, search for a keyword that is even more specific, like “meal prep recipes for bodybuilding.”

Scroll Through Hashtags

All the hashtags associated with your desired query will appear under the “Hashtags” portion. You can scroll through all the hashtags related to your query. The number of hashtag views will also be visible to you beside each one.

Take Notes About Creating Content

Check out the type of content under the hashtags you’re interested in, and take note of the creators who appear repeatedly under that hashtag. You might want to collab with them later on.

Pick Out Your Hashtags

Choose hashtags that are relevant to your content and target audience. After picking out your hashtags, you can add them to your video for posting on TikTok. Just type the hashtags description field, making sure to add the “#” symbol before each keyword.

Your video will then be searchable under each hashtag you add.

Here are some tips to optimize your content on TikTok by using hashtags:

Mix Popular and Smaller Hashtags

One of the key advantages of using popular hashtags is that you already know a lot of people are aware of them and searching for them. However, the main disadvantage of this is that you also have a lot of competition. As such, it’s good to mix these with smaller and less competitive hashtags, which you’re more likely to get noticed with.

Use Current and Branded Hashtags

Hashtag popularity may differ based on trends, so it’s essential to keep track of current hashtags and update your usage based on trends. Also, try to develop your own branded hashtags so followers can find you. You can get much further in terms of reach with a branded hashtag on TikTok compared to other platforms.

You can also launch a hashtag challenge or a competition where you challenge users to create content, such as a reaction, dance cover, or song. They then have to use your branded hashtag so you can find them. Challenges work exceptionally well on TikTok, as they are a great way to garner user engagement and push virality.

Observe Hashtag Length and Number

You can use up to 30 hashtags per TikTok video, but we recommend sticking to 4 to 6. As for captions, the limit is 100 characters, so keep your captions short and snappy to leave space for hashtags.

Much like learning how to do search engine optimization (SEO), using hashtags on TikTok involves a lot of research, strategizing, and monitoring. Once you get the hang of it and find the hashtags that are most suitable to your TikTok channel or have already built a branded hashtag of your own — you can see how having a solid hashtag strategy can boost engagement and increase your follower count.

As in SEO, don’t stuff your video captions with keywords! Although you can always add more in the comments, stick to a well-written caption and 4 to 6 of your top hashtags. Then, don’t forget to watch out for trends and challenges you can hop onto, as these are your tickets to viral hashtag success on TikTok. Most of all, have fun with it!

TikTok is a dynamic, interactive platform that centers on a user-friendly experience. So, this is your chance to create fun, engaging content that your audience can really connect with and enjoy.
